The Gringo Story

Gringo was born in Australia at the start of 1984, after years of travelling the world. Our founders Deb and Dave wanted to combine their passions of personal freedom, funky vibes and helping the less fortunate and so Gringo was born.

Beginning selling Mexican silver jewellery up and down the Australian coast, over time the business grew organically branching out into the ethical, unique & vibrant clothing we now know and love! Over the years our range expanded further, to offer a vast array of in-house designed, bags, accessories and giftware

In 1991 Deb and Dave decided to move back home to the UK bringing the sunshine (at least in clothing form) with them and haven’t looked back! Fast forward to today Gringo is a thriving independent business supplying ethically sourced fairtrade products from Nepal, India, Thailand and Bali.

Dave and Deb remain passionate about traveling and ensure they visit their suppliers turned friends every year to uphold the core values that the company was founded on. Determined to carry on the legacy and continue its good work their children Emily and Toby are helping to drive Gringo Fairtrade forward with the same dedication and commitment to ethical practices that it was founded on and that has helped to positively impact so many communities around the world.

✨Our Fairtrade Principles🌿

Equality⚖️

Ensuring both men and women receive fair and equal wages. Have regular breaks, paid holidays and religious freedom.

Safety🛡️

Making sure that proper safety precautions are taught, understood and followed to make the workplace is safe for all.

Planet🌍

Encouraging respect for environment, stopping pollution, promoting organic materials and sustainable production.

Aid Through Trade❤️

Honest pay for honest work. No haggling. Developing valuable skills and sharing work across many small scale suppliers not large factories.

Trust🤝

We maintain long term relationships with our suppliers, giving them room and security to grow and confidence to make improvements and investments.

No Child Labour🧸

All children deserve a childhood, we will NEVER use child labour, or sweatshops. No amount of profit is worth the human suffering it causes. People matter more.
